Our work with Blackpool to capture and analyse data gained through a comprehensive survey of the town’s of carriageways and footways has enabled the council to turn-around the management and maintenance of its highways. Armed with trusted intelligence about its network, it has been able to allocate funds with confidence and pursue a regime of cost-efficient, proactive maintenance under a new ‘right place, right treatment, right time’ mantra rather than reactive, costly and disruptive repairs. Its early interventions have dramatically improved road safety and triggered a sharp drop in roads-related claims from £1.8 million per year to under £100,000 a year in 2017/18.
